Washington, DC

South Eastern Georgia has always been home for me. Luckily for my little town, we are situate right in the corner of Georgia just above Florida. So, it's not very common for us to get a directly hit with Hurricanes. At least not until recently. With that being said, growing up we never took Hurricanes too seriously. As a child we only evacuated for 2 Hurricanes. However, it seems as if the times have changed. Not only did we evacuate this year, but we did last year as well.

Anyway, as I'm sure many of you know, Hurricane Irma had her sights set on Florida and Georgia. She was a huge storm and her path was very unstable. My husband and I decided to make the call last minute and head on out for higher ground. Better safe than sorry, right? We originally booked in West Georgia, later switched to North Carolina and almost even went to Tennessee. Ultimately we decided to take on the 10 hour drive and head to Washington, DC to visit my sister and her family. Which I'm so glad we did! We had such a wonderful time and the weather was absolutely perfect the entire stay. We were able to spend 3 and 1/2 days site seeing/exploring and we already can't wait to go back!

Day 1 was spent at the National Harbor. We did a wine tasting, had dinner and rode the Ferris Wheel.

Day 3 was spent touring the Arlington National Cemetery. We then headed back to the National Mall area to tour the Natural History Museum and see the White House. (Also used this say to snap a photo in front of the Colette Miller Wing Mural at Embassy Row Hotel.)

Day 2 was spent in the National Mall area where we saw the Lincoln Memorial and Capitol Building. We found a row of food trucks where we enjoyed lunch and then toured the National Air and Space Museum.

Our 4th and final day was spent at Great Falls Park. It was a little bit of a drive from where we were staying but it was so worth it. It was a great morning with breathtaking views.

We loved our time in DC. I feel like we did so much within such a short amount of time. It's unfortunate that we had to visit under the circumstances that we did but thankfully we came home to a undamaged house and great memories of a mini vacay.
